I don’t usually leave reviews, but this is the type of place you’re lucky enough to stumble upon. Very low key, but home-cooked food that makes you feel at home. Small, friendly staff and you can tell Annie is in it for the right reasons — knows most of the customers by name and likes to engage in banter while she cooks. Western omelette was 10/10 and the homemade bread was delicious.

Fantastic food! Not sure how we never found this before, while prices are a bit high the food is home cooked and filling! Owner was very nice and we enjoyed talking with her
We ate here a couple of weeks ago and it was not great. Everything seemed to be cooked on a griddle covered with vegetable oil. The pancakes were the strangest looking and tasting things ever, the omelette tasted of grease and coffee was cold. The worst thing was the cutlery was dirty. There was dried up broccoli on my knife! It looked like dishes were not put through a commercial dishwasher and were hand washed or rinsed. I think Annie needs to retire as she also is not the friendliest.
A strong stench of burnt bacon accompanied us for the rest of the day.
Went here for breakfast and wow what a find. Looks a bit dodgy from the outside but we braved ourselves and went in. What a wonderful place. Everything is cooked fresh on premises including the bread! Annie still cooks and had the best pancakes (though way too many!) and delicious cooked oats (porridge) with fruit cooked on top with it. Proper espresso coffee that kicked you into next week. I'm really sorry that we are not around to try the lunch offers but go there and don't be put off by the outside appearance.
I never write reviews for restaurants but the food was so bad that I felt the need to do it. I feel really bad for writing this review as I feel like Annie is really trying and I really was hoping this place would be great. This breakfast was probably the worst breakfast we've ever had and what's shocking is how much money she charges for the breakfast (I feel like if her prices were more reasonable for what was served, I would have been more empathetic). The kids ordered a blueberry smoothie and it tasted so bad- watered down and chunks of blueberry still in the smoothie- my daughter almost choked on a piece (I saw the waiter putting in frozen blueberries, water and what looked like watered down yogurt); our kids who love smoothies barely touched it, pancakes were not cooked fully; for a $16 egg/bacon/toast and potatoe plate, we got 2 pieces of bacon, small piece of egg, and maybe 12 cubed potatoes. I wish I had read the bad reviews before spending my $ here. I'm not sure how they got 4.6 stars. Our kids still talk about how disgusting that smoothie was and we were there a few weeks ago.
We came in for a breakfast at midday and we got some french toast, omelettes and a ham breakfast. The food was good and so were the drinks (coffee and hot chocolate and tea). The service was great and it was great to talk to the staff and they gave us recommendations of places to visit. The prices were good and I enjoyed eating there. I would recommend coming to Annie’s place cafe for your breakfast or lunch!!!
Overall an awesome breakfast experience. Make you feel like home.
Wonderful hidden gem. Come and sit at the kitchen table and enjoy your amazing breakfast. Locally sourced bacon, coffee, home made bread and home made jam. Real potatoes fried up with yor eggs and toast. We loved it. Friendly welcoming atmosphere.
Very homey feel, wonderful food by a host that caters whatever you might want.
Such a cozy and welcoming cafe. The owner is a sweetheart and the food is incredible.
This is a hard one to write as the owner and worker both seem very nice. Visually from outside the sign is heavily worn and I actually walked past the place with blinds covering all of the windows. It desperately needs a revamp. The owner very clearly needs help to run the place and get around and the lad helping her just doesn't think on his feet unfortunately. You will have to ask for milk where they lend you the carton from the fridge and a spoon with your tea. The owner then offered a free scone and it comes with no butter etc from the lad. I would advise the owner to consider her options moving forward if the place isn't making money.
Funky little place, you place your order with Annie the chef. All local ingredients and homemade bread. I have seen reviews that say cash only, that is not true. Debit/credit cards are accepted.
This place is a gem that most people would gain to know about! Me and my girlfriend were surprised that on a Saturday at noon in July there were nobody but us because Annie and her staff made us feel right at home (I think it has to do with her location because she isn’t on the waterfront but not too far from it). She has by far the best traditional breakfast place in Halifax. The food was amazing and reminded me of a good old breakfast my grand-mother would cook on the country side for my grandfather or for her grand children. It was so heartwarming and deliciously homemade which made this little brunch place so amazing!
Hannah is awesome!
We thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast here. Excellent omelettes, very friendly owner and server.
