The food is always great but sometimes we dont get all of it. whenever I order over the phone, they rush people much. They dont let us talk! Holy slow down on the phone, please! More than once, items have been missing or forgotten. Its getting quite frustrating.
Reviews / Ratings for China Gourmet Takeout
Quick food good eats
got chicken and broccoli with steamed rice + wonton soup. everything is bland and has zero taste, i had to drench the dinner in sauce to give it more flavour. chicken and broccoli - i got the quart size so i was expecting a decent amount of chicken. the ratio was abysmal there was so much veg and very little chicken.
China Gourmet was once a staple for my friends and me when we worked at Rogers, so I stopped in today hoping for that nostalgic, old-school Chinese takeout experience. Unfortunately, the $19 Cantonese chow mein was completely tasteless, and the meat was questionable enough that I didn’t feel comfortable finishing it. The nostalgia brought me back, but the food reminded me that some memories are better left in the past.
I’m a sucker for their chicken wings. Perfectly crispy and tasty. I also order them a particular way and they never disappoint. My kids loves them too so that’s a win.
Flavourless Foods
I ordered dinner today: wings, sweet and sour chicken, chicken chop suey, and Cantonese noodles. Unfortunately, the food was very disappointing. It seems something has changed at the York Mills location, possibly a change in management or chef. The food was bland and tasteless, and the portions seemed to have much less meat and steamed vegetables than before. The chicken chop suey only had broccoli and bean sprouts—no carrots or bok choy. The wings tasted okay, but the portion was noticeably smaller than it used to be. I’ve been ordering dinners and lunches from here since 2007, and the food was much better. Sadly, for almost a year now, it hasn’t been the same. After this experience, this will be my last order. Very disappointing 😔😞😕😔
Came here for lunch with a few coworkers and it was amazing. Generous portions, fantastic specials, extremely delicious food and very friendly staff. Would highly recommend to anyone in the area looking for a decently priced meal!
We were occasional customers for years. We ordered lemon chicken, chicken balls and beef chop suey on July 19th. We were both sick from the lemon chicken. We won't be ordering from them again.
They’re delivery time takes forever
Food needs salt and chicken balls are over breaded but still tatse good and thats ok cause the food is fresh and the quantity is great and the staff are really nice
Got a pop from the fridge it's it's basically warm not cold at all. Too cheap to turn up the power in the fridge. Their combos are not worth 17.75 with a pop. Probably the last time I come here
The food was HORRENDOUS. Orders the crispy wontons, beef with mixed vegetables, and the specific fried rice. DONT ORDER THE CRISPY WONTONS. They're basically a fried cracker with a little piece of hard plastic-like filling. The wonton paper was stale and you could tell the oil it was cooked in was not clean. Beef and mixed veggies were fine but the meat texture was not good at all. Didn't really have any flavour and the meat was questionable and gray. Only good think in there were the cashews. The gourmet special fried rice, again flavourless and unappetizing. Everything had a gray-ish colour to it, and whatever meats they had were weirdly hard. Sometimes a greasy take out spot can be really good, but this place is not it.
My favorite place!
The kung pao chicken looked nothing like the picture on the menu, it lacked flavour and the veggies were barely sautéed… service is nice and quick.
"I experienced discriminatory treatment at this restaurant. They seem to treat people differently based on appearance, and the cashier was disrespectful and did not treat customers with proper respect.
We order at least 2x a month. Always the same thing. Rice, beef broccoli and chicken balls. Lots of chicken balls. Up until yesterday I would have told you they had the best chicken balls around. We will not be ordering from them anymore. They chicken balls (3 orders) were not just bad they were un eatable. They were way over done, like they were old and had been refried. Dry like dust. I don't know if it gas changed hands or a new cook but horrible just horrible. They have lost a really good customer.
Our go-to Chinese Takeout for years. Great food, large portions, and a lot of variety.
Food is good especially the chicken balls but it's expensive
This place is garbage omg
Solid Canadian-Chinese spot. Nice that you are able to easily eat in very casually as well. We most often get delivery however. Always tasty meals with generous portions.
I ordered chicken chow main and when I got home I see Cantonese chow main. When I called the man he telling me I ordered Cantonese chowmain. I have never ordered that in m6 life as I dont eat pork. When I call them back to tell them about m6 wrong order the man told me I did not order chicken chow main. Then proceeds to tell me that the receipt says Cantonese showman. We'll of corse it does bc you took my order over the phone and plugged in what ever you wanted and proceeded to yell at me over 5he phone. $41 later and I feed the chowmain to my dog. Chicken wings and eggrolls hard and cold. Never again!!
I’ve been ordering from here for years and years. Today ordered this evening at 5:44pm at 7 o’clock, no food so I call and was told food was on the way. As again ordered from there for years I believed what I was told! Nooo Called again at 7:30 was then told me to order wasn’t placed, but they would make the order now , and take four dollars off my order, I wanted my food not a $4 discount! unfortunately after all these years do not order from here!!!! It used to be the best place to order from but unfortunately its changed hands and now it’s not fit.!
I ordered sweet and sour chicken and it is absolutely arable; the chicken is deep fried crispy to the point of if you have dentures, that’s it for you. It’s tuff, dry, bitter, the sauce on the chicken is such a small amount, the chicken is still tuff like rock. You can find and tase burnt rice and bitterness. This is the worst sweet and sour chicken dish I have ever eaten as a Chinese dish I have ever paid for and have to eat. My mastication muscles are tired from both sides, I have to constantly have water to soften up the chicken.
This place seems to be going downhill...fried chicken wings are much smaller than before and still the same crazy price. Very high prices for lack Lustre food.
