Halibut House has not had halibut supplied in several months. Always call before you waste your gas to get there. The head office said halibut will be there soon, but no specifics.
Reviews / Ratings for Halibut House Fish & Chips
Definitely one of the best fish and chips meals I've had this year. And I was vrought up British so I appreciate good battered fish and frankly, am rarely impressed by many local restaurants attempts at fish and chips. Amusingly, there was no halibut available because of the near collapse of the pacific halibut stocks this year. And no haddock because of quota restrictions on the Nova Scotia fishery. So the only choice was cod. But man, it was good cod. The fish itself was cooked perfectly and covered in a light, crispy, tasty batter and not at all greasy. The portion size was large, a single piece filled half the plate. The fries were solid, not as chunky as you'd get in a U.K. chip shop, but thicker than most here. The fries were crisp outside, flakey inside and there was malt vinegar at the table, so full points for that. The coleslaw was an oil and vinegar style, nice and tangy, my only complaint was that the amount provided was too small. The fish and fries portions were generous, so getting about a quarter cup of coleslaw felt insufficient even parsimonious. The only thing that I would change, besides getting more coleslaw was the tartar sauce, if you can call it that. It tasted like very sweet mayonnaise with barely a hint of the pickles, capers, dill, taragon and other herbs that you expect in a tasty tartar sauce. It was almost cloyingly sweet. The waitress was very helpful, apologizing for and explaining the lack of fish options and checking regularly on the table. She was pleasant, efficient and entertaining. All in all, despite the two minor quibbles, the battered cod here is well worth the visit.
Good food, giant portion of the fish!! Crispy batter! They bring a large squirt bottle of tartar to the table, instead of just a little cup on your plate.
Had a big order for my family, made it clear I wanted to substitute 2 orders of the side fries to poutine, got one side of poutine only so I was charged extra $4 for something I didn't even get. I also asked if the fish comes with slice of lemon, was told yes, when I arrived home.. no lemon on any of the fish orders. One of my children couldn't eat the fries, he said they tasted weird, probably because of the amount of grease they absorb. Anyways check your food before you leave, you may not get what you ask for. Was also truly disappointed about the packaged tarter sauce. Not cool.
Clean, friendly, delicious, great place for breakfast or supper! Do i recommend this restaurant? 100000000%
Fantastic breakfast spot. Will 100% be back.
Great fish and chips and really big portions
Love the service here. Breakfast is super affordable and delicious. And they have a change table for babies!
It's called Halibut house but they don't have any. So don't go looking for Halibut. Disappointing
Same as every other time, always good 💯 See if
I have been looking for Clams in the Ottawa area for years. I tried the clams here this morning. They were cooked to perfection. Light golden. Just like Nova Scotia would do. Great atmosphere. Lots of family enjoying there Breakfast. Happy customers all around. I highly recommend coming here for a nice Clean restaurant. Staff were Super friendly.
Excellent service as always. I decided on the small breakfast which is very good value.
Went for breakfast. Quite reasonable compared to many places. Coffee was extra (booo!), but it was pretty good!
Relaxed atmosphere. Great for gatherings with friends and family.
I have halibut
Take a bus load of seniors all the time We love it
Restaurant was dirty and the food was barely edible.
Great food every time we have been here!
They were right across from the oil change. They had a good menu choice of fish, fries and salads. Gravy. Indoor washrooms and handicap parking.
You would think that a fish place would have great fish. The exact opposite is true. I'm not sure how this place stays open or even how this place has other restaurants called halibut house, but they certainly cannot cook fish. We've gone there once and will never return. Do not go here
Dropped in for lunch and my order was taken assuming I was doing take out. No signage or indication to be seated to be served. The Haddoxck and chips came with a mound of fries and a decent piece of fish in a nice light batter. A bit pricey but good quality.
We ordered the halibut burger and haddock fish and chips. the portions were amazing, not beer battered. Quick and clean service, the atmosphere needs a little work, but overall: Taste: amazing portions: amazing pricing: affordable note: clean and pleasantly smelling washrooms
